We spent St. Piran’s day (5th March) in Lantic Bay, and what a great day it was! Fun on the beach, and a little spring clean.
Up in the NT car park on the top of the cliff there was a strong, cold, east wind blowing – we told ourselves the beach would be sheltered, it would be OK..?
It was cold and windy heading across the field towards the coast path, but then when we started dropping down to the beach the wind died away, the sun seemed to come out, and it was OK. No, it was fantastic !
We fitted everything into the day, swimming, found-ball-rounders, picnic, and visiting the very exclusive rock museum (open one day only).
We also picked litter off the beach. It’s a little sad seeing the beach at the end of winter, after winter storms have blown rubbish up onto the beach. It can seem like an impossible task to clean it up, but the 8 of us made a big difference in an hour – through the spring many people do a little, like us, to clean the Cornish Beaches – keeping them world class. The litter we collected is kind of interesting, really a lot of plastic water bottle this year – but, maybe just maybe the tide is starting to turn on this, with leading retailers taking plastic water bottles off the shelf.
Anyone can join the National Trust on Monday 4th April to help clean Lantic Bay.
